Dockers lived on both sides of the river. It is hard to imagine growing up near London's docks in the first half of the 20th Century. On the other side of the river there is a school playground. In the past children used to come and play on the 'beach' here at low tide. I decided that this would be a good place to hear some childhood memories about growing up near the docks. I also liked the idea of a child-view introducing the docks; the listener is like the child, rapidly gaining some first impressions. Listen out for a stick running against the railings - there are child-ghosts here.
